The Project - MEXUSCAN
REFLECTION, RESISTANCE AND RE/SOLUTIONS:
The Coalition for Justice in the Maquiladoras (CJM)
Video Production by Julio Cesar Guerero
This is a video production that profiles CJM's work over the last 10
years as a tri-national advocacy organization.
The 35 minute video touches on issues that affect workers in the three
countries included in the North American Free Trade Agreement. These issues
include: human and worker rights, environmental pollution, and various
other impacts of NAFTA.
Producer Julio Cesar Guerrero encapsulates several themes within the
global economy discourse from the perspective of an advocate. The video
focuses on the following themes: the development of CJM, the involvement
of Unions, organizing strategies, environmental and health and safety
issues, international campaigns and international support and solidarity
models.
The video includes testimonies from CJM members regarding the many struggles
which occur along the U.S./Mexico border. The testimonies illustrate the
workers' constant struggles against the adverse effects of foreign capital
investment in Mexico. Tactics which are discussed in the video include
civil disobedience as well as the utilization of conventional negotiation
channels.
