Comnet Community Centers (C3)Work HistoryIn 2001 Comnet collaboratory partners developed an on-line community for after-school programs in Macomb County, Michigan, called the ASK M.I.K.E (Macomb Investing in Kids Everyday) Web site Comnet Community Center. Collaboratory partners began their grassroots effort in 2000 to increase awareness about and encourage the development of safe and productive after-school activities for youth. Comnet supported the project by designing Web graphics, implementing the information architecture for the site, coding HTML, and training the Ask M.I.K.E. staff to maintain the site. Parents, teachers, and youth use the site to find after-school activities in their area. The Macomb County Human Service Coordinating Body and other community partners continue efforts to inform parents about the AskMIKE Web site as a resource for children and youth after-school activities. The AskM.I.K.E. Web site has now been expanded to include an online interactive community. The interactive community was added in response to a recommendation made by members of the Macomb County Human Service Coordinating Body Youth-At-Risk subcommittee. Subcommittee members articulated a need for representatives from youth-serving agencies to speak with one another on a regular basis especially regarding needs, funding opportunities, and program ideas. New members interested in using the online community must create a user name and password through the site in order to sign on. Last updated: 3/24/05 |
