About Us
The Global Program on Youth, based at the University of Michigan School
of Social Work in Ann Arbor, is establishing broad-based groups of scholars,
policy makers, and service providers who are working together to address
critical and timely issues related to children and youth.
GPY addresses the translation from research to practice in an effort
to make research more accessible and applicable to policy makers and practitioners.
The program is transforming the way social workers are trained, how social
work research is disseminated, and how technical assistance is provided.
This project involves local and international, and inter-institutional and inter-professional collaborations. We are breaking important new ground by applying a collaboratory model in a social work context. The model is also allowing us to examine the uses of technology in the environments served by our projects. Another important contribution of this project concerns the relationship-building among collaboratory partners. Because the nature of the Global Program on Youth connects researchers, policy makers, and practitioners on a regular and sustained basis, all of the collaboratory partners negotiate the roles and responsibilities.
By design, the Global Program on Youth deals broadly with areas of children and youth. Our GPY collaboratories represent a range of topical areas with important opportunities for overlap.
